What these geniuses neglected to tell him is that these "Link Farms" can get you banned from the search engines all together. I have never seen my friend's website listed on any search engine ever.

Myth - Someone can guarantee you a first page listing in the free listing of a search engine. This is an absolute lie. A keyword search on Google will easily produce a half million listings. Every one of these wants the #1 spot. Anyone who can beat odds like that at will is already retired in Aruba.

Truth - There are things you can do to help your ranking that pretty much hold true for all search engines. It is worth the time and effort to optimize your site provided the cost is not excessive. Search engines can provide income to your business.

Myth - The most effective way to advertise your business is to have a website and get it listed on search engines. See 1st myth.

Truth - You will get more clients from your website if you direct people to your site instead of letting them find it. A website is the most effective way to extend your advertising dollar. Putting your web address in your conventional advertising tells people where they can get as much information as you want to give them. A website also allows you to provide services to the public while you are not available to them.
